Masking Dots and Strips

For printed circuit board wave solder applications.

Polyimide film is used internationally as a masking medium, to protect parts of the circuit boards where solder is not required. Typically there is a need to mask gold coated edge contacts as well as holes where components are to be inserted at a later date.

A good clean removal of the dots is essential in all applications.

Katco produce a range of dots and strips, using polyimide film in thickness and diameters as shown below.

For powder coating applications.

Polyester film is the most frequently used material for masking during the powder coating and paint spraying processes. Polyimide film can be used where a high temperature mask is called for. Typical sizes are as shown below.

Masking dots are supplied on rolls of 2000 dots, mounted on a carrier tape with split backing.
Dots, strips, and die-cut components can be produced using customers preferred material, this could be Kapton^®, Nomex^®, Mylar^®, Melinex^®, Ultem^® etc.
Kapton dots have a bronze colour, polyester dots are supplied blue or green colour.
